The Stevens dominated the weekend at Liberty University's Flames High School Invitational with the nation's fastest two 1600 and 1000 meters, while Joanna Stevens completed her weekend with a 4:53 1600 and 2:55 1000 on her legs with a 10:29 3200 meter "cool down". There was no question who were the two biggest stars of Virginia's largest high school indoor invitational of the year.
However, the huge meet also had many other includes completing some impressive triples including Prince George senior Desi Scott (pictured above by Brandon Miles) who won the 300 (42.25) and 500 (1:17.85) meter dashes along with winning her section of the 1000 meter run (3:08.73) to place ahead of all runners in the event except for the loaded fast section of five which produced four of the nation's top seven times. Scott's 500 meter time was the 10th fastest in the nation prior to this weekend's results.
There were several double event winners for the boys including Scott Campbell of Salem in the long jump (22'3") and 55 meter hurdles (7.88), George Carter of Blacksburg in the 1600 (4:19.86) and 3200 (9:41.71) meter run, Quentin Parker of Bassett in the 300 (36.46) and 500 (1:08.41) meter dash.
Montasia Golden had two second place finishes on Friday in the long jump and 300 meter dash, but found the winner's circle on Saturday in her first real 55 meter hurdles race of the season with a personal best 8.34 clocking for the Lee-Davis junior.
