Here are the updated team rankings following Knights Crossing, Pole Green Classic, and a few other opening week meets. Expect an update after Oatlands (9/26).
No. 1
James W. Robinson
Analysis: The defending champions return their core of stars yet again. This team is strong and versatile. We even got to see their strength in the track season but at their core, this is a truly special XC team.
No. 2
Blacksburg
No. 2 Blacksburg (Blacksburg, VA)
Analysis: With a new coach and some new athletes, Blacksburg looks to continue their winning ways. They will need to be near perfection though to win another state title as they have some stiff competition.
No. 3
Hanover
No. 3 Hanover (Mechanicsville, VA)
Analysis: Hungrier than ever, the Hanover Hawks will look to challenge Blacksburg and Grafton this year at States. This team is skilled and tough and of course loves the hills.
No. 4
Grafton
No. 4 Grafton (Yorktown, VA)
Analysis: On paper this team looked good but on the course they have already shown signs of greatness. They have tough competition and look to be ready to match it stride for stride.
No. 5
West Springfield
Analysis: The Spartans have been right there! It has even been so close recently that it took a tie-breaker to beat them. They are laser focused and strong.
No. 6
Loudoun Valley
Analysis: Just like their male counterparts, the LV Vikings are working their way back up the rankings with a strong young team. They could and should make some big moves this year.
No. 7
Midlothian
No. 7 Midlothian (Midlothian, VA)
Analysis: Historically one of the greatest programs in the state with some recent success individually. They are now trying to move that individual success to broader team success and seem to be on their way there.
No. 8
Glen Allen
No. 8 Glen Allen (Glen Allen, VA)
Analysis: This team looks great. They many of their major point scorers and look fresh and ready to compete this XC season.
No. 9
Yorktown
Analysis: Sometimes overlooked, this team is solid and building towards a great season.
No. 10
Atlee
No. 10 Atlee (Mechanicsville, VA)
Analysis: Joining the rankings after a strong showing at the Pole Green Classic. This team has some serious potential.
