Salute To Seniors: Courtney Mudd

Questions 1: What was your greatest moment while competing in high school?

My greatest moment in high school was winning XC Regionals this past year. My team was underdogs all year and obtained so much success, I was so proud of my team.

Question 2: What is your biggest regret (related to T&F in high school) or what would you have done differently and why?

I'm really thankful for getting second place four times for the state team title. But winning the team title at least once would have been cool. It's really frustrating thinking three out of the four times were by just one point. I regret not working harder, so we could've clinched the team victory.

Question 3: What will you miss the most about HS T&F/XC?

I am going to miss my team SO much, they were and will always be like a family to me.

Question 4: What is some advice from incoming frosh and rising seniors on your high school team that you would like to share with them?

Don't hold yourself back. Your mind might quit at first, but your body can handle more than you think. So, work on pushing that barrier. Additionally, take care of your body. I got the same injury twice this past year, and it really set me back. You need both a tough mindset and a strong body to succeed!

Question 5: What was the hardest workout you did your entire high school career? Did you like it or did you dread it?

We had this crazy routine; all-out 600, followed by 30 seconds rest, then another all-out 200. It was always funny seeing everyone collapsing to the ground afterward. Besides being entertaining, it boosted my confidence for the races ahead. The workout was meant to simulate a real 800 and prepared me well for the post-season.

Question 6: How did you make track/XC a very individual sport into more of a team sport?

Throughout the years I have trained with many groups, where every person played a vital role in pushing us all to be faster and stronger. Something I could never have done alone. Having teammates run with you makes running easier and more fun! We supported each other through everything and celebrated every success together.

Question 7: Finally, what are your college plans? Will you be competing in college, where? What do you plan on studying? What do you have as career plans?

Next year, I'll be running Track and Cross country at CNU. I've decided to study Kinesiology, and my goal is to work in the field of physical therapy.
