Moran, a sophomore, led a pack of JMU men that placed their entire top five in the first 10 places for a team score of 24 points. JMU junior Allen Carr (4th, 25:53), freshmen Teddy Stevenson (6th, 26:02), sophomore Bryan Buckaldn (7th, 26:03), and junior Nick Noe (10th, 26:11) rounded out the Dukes\' top five runners.
Lynchburg College had a strong showing for a DIII school with a fourth place finishing performance (120 points). The Hornets were led by 2003 NCAA Nationals qualifier Brian Flynn, who finished 15th individually in a time of 26:25.25. The remaining top five for Lynchburg consisted of an impressive group of freshmen in Travis Wray (24th, 26:49), Brad O\'Neil (32nd, 27:26), Matt Carlton (33rd, 27:30), and Brian Kirby (42nd, 28:05).
Radford University finished fifth in the team scoring with 127 points as they were led by three underclassmen with sophomore Mike Meehan (19th, 26:31), freshmen Joel Hanlon (20th, 26:35) and freshmen Sean Bossman (27th, 27:13).
JMU junior Shannon Saunders won the women\'s 5K race by 27 seconds to cross the finish line in a time of 18:54. The JMU women finished with a team score of 23 points as Lady Dukes Nelly Anderson (3rd, 19:36), Michelle Beardmore (4th, 20:03), Dena Spickard (6th, 20:09), and Kelly Baker (9th, 20:26).
Virginia Commonwealth University women\'s team finished third in the team standing with a total of 89 points as top 15 finishers Elizabeth Boit (11th, 20:49) and Emily Thompson (12th, 21:07).
