Three CNU Athletes Named USA South Athletes Of The Week

FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Three Christopher Newport cross country athletes were named USA South Athletes of the Week, the conference announced Monday evening.

Emily Low was named USA South Women\'s Cross Country Runner of the Week. A junior from Blacksburg, VA, Low helped the Lady Captains to a 26th place finish overall out of 34 teams and third out of nine Division II and Division III squads at the Paul Short Invitational. Low finished the 6K race with a time of 22:56 to finish 96th of 241 runners overall and fourth out of 66 Division II and Division III runners.

Jay Wyss, a freshman from Richmond, VA, was named Men\'s Cross Country Rookie of the Week. Wyss helped the Captains to a 28th place finish out of 36 teams at the Paul Short Invitational. The Captains also finished eighth of 12 Division II/Division III teams. He finished with a time of 26:02 on the 8K course for a finish of 113th out of 250 runners and 17th out of 87 Division II/Division III runners.

Bridgett Dryer was named Women\'s Cross Country Rookie of the Week. The freshman from Chester, VA was instrumental in the Lady Captains 26th place overall finish (3rd of nine Division II/Division III teams). Individually, Dryer finished 130th out of 241 runners (9th out of 66 runners among Division II/Division III runners). She finished the 6K race with a time of 23:29.
