Spartan Teams Run at NSU Invitational

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA -— The NSU men's and women's cross country teams took second and third place, respectively, at a tri-meet hosted by the Spartans on Saturday at Mount Trashmore.

Maryland-Eastern Shore won the men's competition with a score of 26, followed by NSU (37) and Hampton (67). The women's race was won by Hampton (32), followed by UMES (41) and NSU (51).

In the men's 4.6-mile race, Barnabas Togom of UMES finished second overall in a time of 23:11. He was followed by NSU's Cleophus Koros (Kapsabet, Kenya,/Mt. St. Mary's), who ran 24:10 to finish third, and Geoffrey Rutto of UMES was fifth in 24:16.

On the women's side, Eva Slavikova of UMES took first, finishing the 3.1-mile run in 18:38. Jitka Vaculikova of Hampton ran 18:40, NSU's Denisha Hudson (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Lakeland) was third in 18:41, Parla Zovoralova of UMES was fourth in 18:44, and Krysta Medlin of Hampton was fifth in 19:04.

The Spartan men run in the North Carolina Cross Country Championships and regional preview meet on Saturday at East Carolina. Also on Saturday, the NSU women run in the Tribe Invitational, hosted by William & Mary.
