NATCHITOCHES -- The Northwestern State Lady Demons and the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs were runaway winners Monday at the NSU Pre-Conference Meet cross country competition, with NSU freshman Jacqueline Rushford rolling to a 6,000-meter victory in the women's race while Tech's Taylor Ashton fought off teammate Josh Pearce down the stretch in the 8,000-meter men's contest at the Walter P. Ledet Track Complex.

Norfolk State Men Set MEAC Meet Record, Wins 6th Straight Title NSU Press Release Oct 29, 2005

The Norfolk State men\'s cross country team extended its own record of consecutive Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference cross country championships to six with a dominating win on Saturday afternoon at SAS Soccer Park. The Spartans women came in second place. The NSU men, who set a new MEAC record by winning their fifth straight title a year ago, tallied a meet record-low 20 points. Each of the Spartans\' top six runners ran a personal-best time on Saturday, led by men\'s Most Outstanding Performer David Kemboi (Eldoret, Kenya). He finished the 8,000-meter course in 23 minutes, 30 seconds to begin a 1-2-4-5-8 finish for the NSU men.

Singleton Continues Hot Streak at Morgan State NSU Press Release Apr 16, 2005

Norfolk State senior Donald Singleton (Syracuse, N.Y.) continued his strong outdoor season by running a personal-best time in the 400 meters for the second time this spring, winning in a time of 46.99 seconds on Saturday at the Morgan State Legacy Track Meet at Hughes Stadium. Singleton had already qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Regionals in the 400 with his previous personal best of 47.26 seconds at the Aggie Relays on March 26.

The NSU track teams began their outdoor season with competitions at different sites last weekend. The men competed in the Raleigh Invitational this past weekend, while the women competed in the Aggie Relays held by North Carolina A&T. The men\'s team was led by senior Donald Singleton (Syracuse, N.Y.), who took third place in the men\'s 400 meters. More importantly, he ran a personal-best time of 47.26 seconds, qualifying him for the NCAA Outdoor Regionals in Randall Island, N.Y., in April.
