William & Mary Women Finish Sixth at NCAA Southeast Regional

Cathcart, Kosakowski Earn All-Southeast Honors

GREENVILLE, NC - Sophomore Julia Cathcart (Starkville, MS) and senior Jackie Kosakowski (Sauquoit, NY) raced to All-Southeast honors as 2004 CAA Champion William and Mary women's cross country finished in sixth at today's NCAA Southeast Regional. Competing on the 6,000m Lake Kristi Course in Greenville, NC, the Tribe amassed 187 points for sixth place in the highly competitive field featuring four ranked teams as No. 5 Duke edged No. 10 NC State for the victory by four points, 71-75. Both teams, by finishing in the top two, received automatic bids to the NCAA Championship while the Tribe will need to await the determination of at large bids to see if it will qualify for the Championship. North Carolina's Carol Henry won the race in 19:57.5.

The Tribe was led by two all-region performers, a designation awarded to the top-25 finishers, as both Cathcart and Kosakowski netted the first All-Southeast accolades of their careers. Cathcart continued her strong season, racing to 20th by clocking a 20:55.1. Kosakowski, who broke out with a runner-up finish at the CAA Championship two weeks ago, continued her strong late season push by claiming 23rd with a time of 21:00.2.

Also turning in strong performances were sophomore Meghan Bishop (Blue Bell, PA) and junior Kristyn Shiring (Stafford, VA), who finished within three seconds of each other. Bishop clocked a 21:20.7 for 33rd while Shiring timed a 21:23.2 for 35th. Completing the College's scoring five was junior Karen Pulliam (North Potomac, MD) in 79th (22:19.8).

W&M is next scheduled to contest the ECAC Championship in New York, NY on November 20th. The Tribe, ranked as high as No. 22 this season and which has outraced several higher-ranked teams over the course of the season, must await the determination of at-large bids to see if it qualifies for the NCAA Championship, to be held November 22 in Terre Haute, IN. At large selections will be announced by 7 p.m. Sunday, November 14.
