Kiflu's win carries Lee to victory, Langley's depth carries them to victory

BURKE LAKE, VA -- Lee senior Alpha Kiflu ran a superb race to win the Liberty District boys race in a time of 15:58. He won with ease as well with 23 second win over second place which happened to be teammate Adam Litchenfels (16:21). Kiflu and Litchenfels helped lead Lee to a district title and a berth in next Thursday's Northern Region Meet which is to be held on the same Burke Lake Park 2.98 mile course on which they used for their district meet. Lee accumalated 41 points as they placed their entire top 5 in the top 15. Other Liberty Districty boys squads advancing to regionals are W.T. Woodson (57 pts), McLean (64 pts), and Langley (76 pts).

While Fairfax's Caitlin Dempsey took home the individual title with her time of 18:33, the Langley girls won the team title as they had far superior depth than any other squad. Paced by Rachel Shipp's second place finish of 19:16, the Langley girls fit their first 5 runners in the first 15 positions to collect a total score of 35 points. Other girls squads advancing to regionals are Madison (55 pts), W.T. Woodson (94 pts), and Fairfax (108 pts).
