It has been 19 years on the girls side and 28 years on the boys side since a team has won the largest classification mainly on distance points. That means the last teams to do it were Midlothian in 2007 and West Springfield in 1998... well until yesterday.
History was made with both Gainesville and James W. Robinson hoisting their first indoor track team trophies.
In the girls competition it was supposed to be closer but Robinson just took care of business. There really is no other way of putting it. They scored 23 points in the 1600, 9 points in the 3200, 8 points in the 1K, and 8 points in the 4x8. That totaled 48 of their 75 points and alone would have placed them third overall.
Just like in other years though, every point counts! They were able to score 19 points in the sprints and sprint relays and then another six points in the field events.

In the Class 6 Boys competition things were always going to be close but we never thought it would be that close! Ultimately it came down to the 4x4 with three teams all with a chance to claim the state team title.
Interestingly enough, the team that ended up winning was the only one without a 4x4 and that was Gainesville. Their team tallied up 51 points to edge out Patriot's 49 and South Lakes 44 points.
Just like the Robinson Girls, Gainesville scored the majority of their points in the distance events with only 10 points coming from elsewhere. That place being the pole vault with Cody Scott winning the event.
Though both teams had some star runners, it came down to contributors scoring a point here and there for them to ultimately win the team title.
