For years we could see what was coming from the bright superstar that is Imani Moore but at her first state meet she surpassed those expectations and then some.
At the VHSL Class 4 state meet, against great competition, the Varina freshman scored a monster 33 points. She was your 55m champion running 7.03, 300m champion running 39.13, your long jump champion jumping 18-6.5, and ran on their 4x2 finishing in 6th.
On top of that she also high jumped where she had an off day only clearing 4-8. Her PR of 5-4 would have placed her second on the day but of course the jumps are hit or miss for everyone. Still quite impressive considering how many events she was in including the rounds of the 55.
The biggest stat line of the meet was that she would have placed 4th as a team!
One of the exciting things we've seen quite often is the effect superstars have on their teammates. Seeing someone at practice every day achieve these accomplishments leads to bigger dreams and goals. Take Loudoun Valley for example, they only had Drew Hunter but in a few short years they won nationals.
We hope the same happens for Varina these next three years as they could be a team to reckon with.
