Commonwealth District Meet Summary

STAFFORD, VA -- It all came down to the final event, and less than a second. After garnering a strong performance from their distance runners in the 3200 meter run, the Colonial Forge boys pulled ahead of host Brooke Point by two points. So it was a must win for the Black Hawks in the 4x400 and a hope that Colonial Forge would fall to third. In the end it was the Brooke Point quad holding off their district rival with a 4:33.84 to 4:34.49 win to tie for the District Championship.

Individually, Brooke Point senior Taili Evans led the way amassing 38 of his teams 127 points as he took District Champion honors in the 55m Dash, 300m Dash and Long Jump and finished second in the Triple jump, including a state qualification time of 35.94 in the 300m Dash. Teammates Shawn Woods and Michael Garel also turned in state qual performances, both in the 55m Hurdles with times of 7.74 and 7.84 respectively. The only other state qual performances for the boys today were in the 1600m Run, with Colonial Forge senior Arno Deickmann pulling in front of Massaponax senior Brandon Dick in the final 60 meters as they crossed the line within a second of each other in posting times of 4:25.13 and 4:26.03. Dick, who nearly scratched today because of illness, had led the rest of the way.

Led by senior Chadnee Green, sophomore April Sinkler and a dominated 5 out of the top 6 in the shot put, Brook Point jumped to an early lead in the field events and hurdles and never looked back as they easily dominated the girls competition tallying 170 points to 90 for runner up North Stafford. Strong across the board, the Black Hawks got a state qualification performance from Green who turned in a time of 8.66 in the 55m hurdles.
