NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport track and field athlete Johnny Besecker passed away recently while on a student trip to Belgium.
Mr. Besecker succumbed to Carbon Monoxide poisoning while staying in a private house in Brugge, Belgium, during the trip.
A sophomore from Fluvanna, Va., he won the 400 meter championship last year at the Mason-Dixon Conference outdoor championships.
While at Fluvanna County High School he was an All-State, All-Region and All-Jefferson District performer. He also played baseball and football and was Student Government President and President of the Senior Class Executive Council.
He is the son of Tammy Sue Besecker and has a sister LeAnna. He was majoring in Political Science at CNU.
