Hokie Saskia Triesscheijn Earns All-American Honors

Triesscheijn is Tech\'s women\'s track & field first All-American since 2001

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Saskia Triesscheijn, a multi-event athlete for Virginia Tech, earned All-American honors today at the 2005 NCAA indoor championships, which are hosted by Arkansas.

Triesscheijn (Jr., Berlin, Germany) tied for sixth place with 4,048 points out of the 17 competitor-field in the women\'s indoor pentathlon event.

She also earned 2.5 points for Tech\'s women\'s team and her first career All-American honor for her top eight performance today. Triesscheijn is Virginia Tech women\'s track & field first All-American since 2001 when Kristin Price finished fourth in the 3,000 meters.

Triesscheijn took 14th place (929 points) in the first event of the women\'s indoor pentathlon, the 60-meter hurdles, with a time of 8.91. She then cleared a school season best of 5\'7\" (1.70m) in the high jump to tie for 10th place (859 points), which was the second event of the pentathlon.

In the third event, the shot put, Triesscheijn finished in second place (733 points) with her personal season best throw of 42\'11.50\" (13.09m). She had a mark of 17\'7.50\" (5.37m) in the long jump to take 13th place (663 points). She concluded the event running a personal season best 800 meters time of 2:16.74 for fifth place (868 points) in the race.

Ashley Selig (Nebraska) won the event with 4,327 points.
