Burns and Norwood Earn All-American Honors

Hokies throw well against the best in the nation

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Two Virginia Tech throwers, Tamara Burns and Ryan Norwood, earned All-American honors on the last day of the 2005 NCAA indoor championships hosted by Arkansas.

All-ACC member Burns (Jr., Elm Creek, Neb.) threw the 20 lb. weight 66\'5.25\" (20.25m) for 12th place out of the 18 thrower-field in the event. Burns earned her first NCAA division I All-American honor today because several of the top eight finishers in the women\'s weight throw event are not American born.

Candice Scott (Florida) won the NCAA title with her throw of 79\'3.75\" (24.17m).

Ryan Norwood (Sr., Cheyenne, Wyo.), A five-time all-conference selection, placed 11th in the men\'s shot put competition with his throw of 59\'8.25\" (18.19m). Norwood earned his first career All-American honor today because several of the top eight finishers in his event are not American born.

Edis Elkasevic (Auburn) threw the shot 64\'7.25\" (19.69m) to win the event.

Burns and Norwood competed in their first NCAA championships.
