Lambert earns NCAA Regional qualifying mark at Ram Invite

RICHMOND, Va. – Sophomore Davion Lambert (Richmond, Va./Varina) qualified for the NCAA Regionals by leaping 24-4.5 in the long jump on a chilly first day of action during Virginia Commonwealth's seventh Ram Invitational at the Richard A. Hollander Track and Field Facility at Sports Backers Stadium.

Lambert finished in first-place by jumping almost a foot further than the second place competitor. His classmate Tim Jackson (Fredericksburg, Va./Courtland) placed fourth with a mark of 22-7.5.

In other action, sophomore Lukasz Matusiewicz (Warsaw, Poland) earned the Ram Invite championship in the 1500m with a time of 3:55.28. Fellow countryman and classmate Mariusz Mostrag (Krajnik, Poland) followed in fifth with a time of 3:57.04, while freshman Steve Walters (Virginia Beach, Va./Green Run) ran the event in 3:58.31, good enough for seventh place.

Sophomore Eric Stanchick (Miami. Fla./Miami Southridge) turned out a personal record in the pole vault, reaching a height of 13-7.25 to give him a seventh-place finish.
