Frykberg earns VCU\'s second NCAA Regional qualifying mark

RICHMOND, Va. – Senior newcomer Brett Frykberg (Jacksonville, Fla./Univ. of Tennessee) broke a Virginia Commonwealth school record and qualified for the NCAA Regionals in the high jump by leaping 6-10.75, Saturday afternoon, during the second day of competition at the Ram Invitational at the Richard A. Hollander Track and Field Facility at Sports Backers Stadium.

Frykberg was the second VCU athlete to qualify for the NCAA Regionals during the meet. Sophomore Davion Lambert (Richmond, Va./Varina) qualified yesterday in the long jump with his leap of 24-4.50.

In other action for VCU, James Frierson (Richmond, Va./Highland Springs), right, earned first-place honors in the 100m and 200m. The sophomore scored a 10.60 in the finals of the 100m and crossed the line in 21.96 to take home the 200m crown.

The foursome of sophomores Tim Cancro (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis), Mariusz Mostrag (Krajnik, Poland), and Lukasz Matusiewicz (Warsaw, Poland), along with junior Riad Ouled (Fontainebleau, France), won the 4x800m relay with a time of 7:52.40.

During the triple jump, Lambert finished in second with a leap of 48-2.75, while Frykberg finished in fourth during the javelin with a throw of 177-5.

Next up for the Rams are the Raleigh Relays March 25-26.
