Manning paces VCU on day two of Ram Invite

RICHMOND, Va. – Senior Cheri Manning (Glen Allen, Va./J.R. Tucker) led the way for Virginia Commonwealth on day two of the Ram Invitational at the Richard A. Hollander Track and Field Facility at Sports Backers Stadium. The sprinter placed first in the 200m with a time of 26.00 and after earning the fastest time in the preliminary round, finished third in the finals of the 100m dash with a time of 12.25.

Sophomore Pia Ruth (Rahway, N.J./Linden) achieved a personal best in the 100m hurdles with a 14.71-run in the finals to give her second place. The hurdler had the fastest time as well in the preliminary round.

The Rams placed three athletes in the top four of the triple jump. Sophomore Yvette Simmons (Newport News, Va./Denbigh) earned top honors with a leap of 38-3.25. Freshman Sheemeca Berkley (Madison Heights, Va./Amherst County) followed in second with a jump of 37-4.50, while junior Brandy Butler (Charlottesville, Va./Charlottesville) achieved a mark of 36-5.50, giving her a fourth-place finish.

The 4x100m relay squad of Berkley, junior Courtney Green (Hanover, Va./Caroline), Manning, and sophomore Tesonia Twine (Richmond, Va./Meadowbrook) finished in second with a time of 47.72.

Next up for VCU is a meet hosted by the University of Richmond on March 25-26.
