2005 Battleground Relays Get Off to Wet Start

FREDERICKSBURG, VA - The University of Mary Washington is hosting the annual Battleground Relays track & field meet this weekend. Action got underway on Friday despite a drizzle that remained over the Fredericksburg area for most of the day.

For the Eagles, Jane Thies finished first in the triple jump, with a leap of 34 feet, six inches. Megan Linn and Carissa Culbreath finished 1-2 in the women\'s hammer throw, with Linn winning with a throw of 110 feet, six inches, and Culbreath taking second at 105\'1\". The women\'s 4x800 meter relay team also took first, with a time of 9:51.40. For the Eagle men, Matt Kirk finished first in the 10,000 meters with a time of 33:32.30. The meet will conclude on Saturday.
