VCU\'s Manning earns personal record in 200m at USF Invite

RICHMOND, Va. – Senior Cheri Manning (Richmond, Va./J.R. Tucker) scored a personal record and came just a tenth of a second short of breaking the Virginia Commonwealth record in the 200m with a final-round time of 24.25, Saturday, at the University of South Florida Track and Field Invitational.

The performance earned her second place out of the 69 athletes competing at the event and shattered her previous personal best of 24.92 after almost breaking it in the preliminary round with a time of 24.95.

Three-time NCAA Championship qualifier Tanika Brown (Powhatan, Va,/Powhatan), a junior,earned a fifth-place finish in the high jump with a leap of 5-6.

Senior Jennell Holmes (Yorktown, Va./York) , pictured, achieved a personal record in the hammer throw with her heave of 133-9, the best mark by a Ram this season. She also earned a personal season best in the discus with a mark of 119-4.

Freshman Sheemeca Berkley (Madison Heights, Va./Amherst County) scored the best long jump performance by a Ram this season with a leap of 18-8.5, earning her 10th place out of the 32 competitors.

VCU is off next weekend as they prepare for the Lou Onesty/Milton Abramson Invitational hosted by the University of Virginia, April 15-16.
