Matusiewicz earns CAA track athlete of the week

RICHMOND, Va. – Sophomore Lukasz Matusiewicz (Warsaw, Poland) has earned the Colonial Athletic Association's men's track athlete of the week for his performance at the Lou Onesty/Milton Abramson Invitational hosted by the University of Virginia this past weekend. It is the fourth CAA athlete of the week honor this season for the Virginia Commonwealth men's track squad, as well as the second consecutive week a Ram has won the award.

Competing in the 800m, Matusiewicz scored the fastest time in the conference this season and came just a fifth of a second short of qualifying for the NCAA Regionals with his time of 1:50.60, good enough for fourth place out of 70 runners competing in the event.

This marks the first time Matusiewicz, a newcomer to the team this season, has received the honor.

Matusiewicz and the rest of his teammates will be competing this weekend, April 22-23, at the CAA Track and Field Championships on the campus of George Mason University. After finishing last season in second place at the meet, the Rams will hope to bring back to Richmond their second CAA title.
