Virginia Intermont Men, King Women Win Inaugural AAC Track

Virginia Intermont College's men's track and field team lived up to their national indoor runner-up reputation by taking the team title in the inaugural Appalachian Athletic Conference Championship, while King College took the women's team title. The meet was held on Saturday in conjunction with Davidson College's Belk Invitational.

VIC's 80 points outdistanced King College's 64 in the men's competition with Brevard in third with 38 and Milligan fourth with 15 points. In the women's championship, King reversed the order winning over VIC 111-73. Milligan was third with 39 and Brevard was fourth with 8.

Highlights of the meet for the Cobras included a 1-4 Intermont sweep of the men's 1500-meters with Elkana Chepsiror taking the title in a national qualifying mark of 3:49.62, with Fernando Cabada, winner of the 3,000-meters, second in 3:50.94. Other VIC winners included Pat Marion in the steeplechase (9:40.30), Lenn Terry in the long jump (6.43 meters), Andrew Whitson in the high jump (6-feet 2- inches), Michael Webley in the 800-meters (1:56.10), Desmond Brown in the 400 (50.73), Ray Williams in the 200m (22.82) and the 4x400 relays team of Williams, Jason Lewis, Jamie Millage and Chepsiror (3:21.36).

Lady Cobras who contributed to VIC's second place team finish with individual wins included Renata Volf in the 1500-meters (4:56.24), Kedra Calhoun in the 100m hurdles (15.47) and the 200-meters (27.48), Dominique Traverse in the high jump (4-feet 9.75-inches), Aneika Robinson in the long jump (16-feet 00.25 inches), Dyamond Silva in the discus (101-feet 5-inches), Ashely Crocker in the shot put (37-feet 10-inches), and Shanelle Josephs in the javelin (113-feet 10-inches).

VIC competes next at the prestigious Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa. next week.
