Rams finish in second for second-straight year at CAA\'s

FAIRFAX, Va. – The Virginia Commonwealth men's track and field team earned its second-consecutive second-place finish at the Colonial Athletic Association Track and Field Championships this afternoon on the campus of George Mason University. The Rams claimed a total of three individual titles on their way to 172 points, with sophomores Davion Lambert (Richmond, Va./Varina) and James Frierson (Richmond, Va./Highland Springs), pictured, earning additional NCAA Regional berths in the high jump and 400m, respectively.

Lambert, who won the long jump crown Friday, added the high jump title to his collection by inching out teammate Brett Frykberg (Jacksonville, Fla./Univ. of Tennessee). Lambert's mark of 6-10.75 tied Frykberg's school record, a mark in which Lambert previously held. Lambert also finished third in the triple jump with a leap of 48-5.25. Frykberg won the javelin competition yesterday to give VCU three individual titles.

Frierson's time of 46.99 in the 400m was good for second-place and also qualified him for the NCAA Regionals. The sophomore finished in second in both the 100m with a time of 10.56 and 200m with a time of 21.48, as well.

Sophomores Lukasz Matusiewicz (Warsaw, Poland) and Mariusz Mostrag (Krajnik, Poland) finished second and third, respectively, in the 800m. Senior James Abraham (Richmond, Va./Hermitage) also finished second in the shot put with a heave of 47-2.25.

Several Rams earned personal records at the meet, including sophomore Derek Altizer (Chesterfield, Va./Thomas Dale) in the 100m with his time of 10.78. Classmate Brandon Argro (Richmond, Va./Henrico) earned a personal best, as well, in the long jump with his fifth-place leap of 22-4.25.
