A list of the top 50 fastest freshmen so far this cross country season. Hanover's Molly Breidenbaugh leads a handful of freshmen girls already competitive with the state's best and running well under 19 minutes for 5K in Midlothian's Kari Johnston (18:25), Robert E. Lee's Bailey Kolonich (3rd, 18:38), and Cave Spring's Katie Fortner (18:40). Breidenbaugh (pictured above by John Herzog) has finished among the top five in several major invitationals including a most recently fifth place 18:08 PR run at the MileStat.com Invitational, which is one of the fastest 5K performances by a ninth grader in recent state history. Lake Braddock has a pair of freshmen among the top 10 fastest in Hannah Christen (5th, 18:52) and Katie Roche (10th, 19:24), which has helped them rebuild quickly from any graduation losses from their 2009 Group AAA state champion team.
