Brickner Wins High Jump while Wakefield and Cooper Place for VMI at IC4A/ECAC Championships

PRINCETON, N.J. – Junior Garrett Brickner (Fairfax Station, Va./Lake Braddock) won the high jump with a lifetime best performance of 7' 1-3/4" (2.18m) to lead a trio of Keydets who competed at the IC4A/ECAC Championships earlier on Sunday as the four-day event concluded at Princeton University in Princeton, N.J.

In winning the IC4A Championship in the high jump, Brickner's performance was the second best in the NCAA East Region and tied him for the 13th highest jump in the country. As of May 15, the mark also tied Brickner for the 17th highest jump by any american male this year according to the USA Today Track and Field Ranking List.

Meanwhile, senior Austin Wakefield (Wake Forest, N.C./Wake Forest) recorded a mark of 51' 8.25\" in the shot put but missed in placing as one of the top-eight performers in falling short of the finals after coming in 11th place.

Senior Mildred Cooper (Gretna, Va./Gretna), VMI's only woman to compete on the day in the ECAC meet, placed fourth in the shot put at 47' 1".

The Keydets' men's and women's teams will now prepare for the NCAA Regional Championships scheduled for May 27-28 at Randall's Island in New York, N.Y.
