Maggie Walker's Galton (4th in IG) and Spiers (3rd in YW) lead VA at USATF JO's

Maggie Walker sophomore Rachel Galton and Hanover freshman Molly Breidenbaugh finished 4th and 14th respectively in the Intermediate Girl’s Division of the USATF National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships this past Saturday in Hoover, Alabama to earn All American Honors and lead the Richmond Track & Field Club to a 3rd place finish in the team standings. Other members of the team were: Patrick Henry’s Malina Richardson and Maggie Walker’s Jessica Lull, Nicole Duimstra, Nemo Keller and Julia Kuno.  Maggie Walker seniors Anna Spiers and Marc Breidenbaugh  also earned All American honors finishing 3rd and 24th respectively in the Young Women’s and Young Men’s Divisions of the National Championships.  

 

Individual runners and teams advance to the National Championships through Association and Regional competitions. The top 3 teams and the top 20 individuals in each of the 5 male and female age group divisions advance from each of  57 Association Championships to one of 16 Regional Championships, and the top 3 teams and top 20 individuals from the Regional Championships qualify for the National Championships. More than 2000 runners competed in this year’s National Championships over the hilly Veteran’s Park course in Hoover, Alabama. The top 25 finishers in each of the 10 age group races at the National Championships earn All American status, and the top 3 teams are honored on the National Podium.
