Recruits Announced for VMI Track and Field and Cross Country

Talented class of men and women set to join Keydets in 2005-06

LEXINGTON, Va. – A core of 23 men and women, part of an incoming recruiting class numbering 40, will attend the Virginia Military Institute and compete on the Keydets' men's and women's track and field and cross country teams beginning in 2005-06. The core group includes 17 men and six women who will compete in a variety of events with 13 of them being distance runners of which nine are men and four are women. The other 10 recruits in the core will strengthen VMI in both running and throwing events such as the 200-meter dash, 4x400-meter relay, pole vault, high jump, shot put, and the discus.

The state of Virginia is well represented in the core-recruiting class with 14 men and five women hailing from the Commonwealth.

Here is a capsule look at 23 members of the recruiting class who are expected to make an impact for the Keydets beginning this coming fall.

MEN

Patrick Eggleston (Nokesville, Va./Brentsville HS)
2005 High School Indoor All-American (4x1600m)
• Four Individual State Championship Titles
• 2005 Outdoor Virginia AA State Individual Champion 1600-meters and 3200m
• 2004 Virginia AA State Cross Country Individual Champion
• 2004 Indoor Virginia AA State Individual Champion 3200m
• 2005 Virginia state leader in the 3200m run (9:15)
• Personal Bests: 3200m: 9:15, 1600m: 4:21, 800m: 1:57

Andrew Rademaker (Fork Union, Va./Fork Union Military Academy)
• State Champion 2005 Virginia Independent Schools Outdoor Championships 3200m run
• State runner-up 2004 Virginia Independent Schools Cross Country Championships
• Prep League Indoor Championships Most Valuable Athlete Award
• Personal Bests: 3200m 9:25, 1600m 4:27

Jared Klajnbart (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain HS)
• Six time All-State (Virginia & Colorado) performer in the 800m, 1600m, and 4x800m run
• 2002 Virginia State Champion 4x800m run
• Four-time Region Champion in the 800m, 1600m, 3200m, and 4x800m run
• Personal best in 800m run of 1:55.65
• Commissioning United States Army

Jeremy Falke (Ashland, Va./Patrick Henry-Ashland HS)
• 2005 Virginia State Qualifier: Outdoor 3200m run
• 4-time All-Region Track & Field Team
• 3-time All District Track & Field Team
• Personal Bests: 3200m run: 9:29, 1600m run: 4:28

David Schlaseman (Falls Church, Va./J.E.B. Stuart HS)
• 5-time All-District Track and Field Team
• 2-time All-District Cross Country Team
• School record holder in the 800m, 1000m, 5000m, and 3-mile run
• Personal Bests: 800m run: 1:58, 1,000m run:2:38
• Commissioning United States Army

Sean Peterson (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point HS)
• 2005 All-District Track & Field Team

Nathan Warner (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Christian)
• 2005 All State Track & Field Team
• School record holder in the 3200m run and 5k

Mike Robertson (Manassas, Va./Osbourn Park HS)
• 2003 All State Track & Field Team
• 2005 All-District Cross Country Team
• Personal Best: 3200m run, 10:07

Ryan Biggs (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run HS)
• 2005 State Qualifier in the 800m run
• Personal bests: 800m: 1:58, 1600m 4:27
• Commissioning United States Marines

Hamid Abdurrhim (Hampton, Va./Hampton)
• 2005 AAA Virginia State Champion in the 300IH(38.07)
• Has also run 57.37 in the 400IH
• Hamid has PR's of 22.89 in the 200m and has split under 50 seconds in the 4x400m relay
• Look for Hamid to make an immediate impact in the hurdles and in the relays as well

Taili Evans (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point)
• 2005 scorer in the AAA Virginia State Meet Indoors and Outdoors in the Long Jump
• Taili also was a top 8 finisher in the AAA State Meet Outdoors in the 100m and 200m
• Taili was All-District and All Region in the 55m, 300m, 100m, 200m, 400m, long jump, and triple jump, during the 2004-05 season
• He has PR's of 10.90 (100m), 22.14 (200m), 35.94 (300m), 50.16 (400m), 22' 10.50 (long jump), 44' (triple jump) 22' 10.50(Long Jump), 44' (Triple Jump)

Andrew Gore (Pulaski, Va./Pulaski County)
• Comes to VMI to play football and run track, had a 10th place finish in the AA Virginia State Championships in the Shot Put, with a best distance of 47' 5.25

Matt Hyatt (Burke, Va./Robinson Secondary)
• Matt will play a strong role in the throws for VMI, in the coming years
• He is coming off of back surgery
• Look for him to compete in all the throws at VMI

Wes Lokey (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg)
• Joins the Keydets as a two-sport athlete in football and track
• Has PR's of 47' 10.50 in the shot put, and 137' 9.50 in the discus

Joey Robinson (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg)
• 2005 4A Maryland State Champion in the 110HH(14.48)
• 2nd place finish in the 4A Maryland State Championships in the 300IH (38.52)
• 3rd place finish in the Maryland Indoor State Championships in the 55HH (7.76)
• Also scored at the state championships in the long jump and the triple jump
• Joey has PR's of 7.76 (55HH), 14.48 (110HH), 38.52 (300IH), 21' 9" (long jump), 43' 5" (triple jump)
• He will also play football for the Keydets in the fall

Tyler Tucker (Burke, Va./Robinson Seconday)
• Recorded a 3rd place finish at the AAA Virginia State Meet and a 4th place finish at the Outdoor AAA Virginia State Meet in the pole vault
• Look's to continue to improve on his PR in the Pole Vault of 14', as well as starting a new adventure in the decathlon
• He has PR's of 14' (pole vault), 6' (high jump), 8.15 (55HH), 15.99 (110HH), 42.09 (300IH), and 120' (discus)

Jasper Watkins (Severn, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt)
• 2005 Member of the Maryland State Champion 4x400m relay team
• 3rd place finish in the Indoor Maryland State Meet in the 300m (35.47)
• Jasper has PR's of 35.10 (300m), 6.55 (55m), 22.95 (200m), 50.14 (400m)

WOMEN

Kelsey Stafford (Charlottesville, Va./Western Albemarle HS)
2005 Indoor All-American: Distance Medley Relay
• Eight time All-State Track & Field/Cross Country (4 indoor track, 3 outdoor track, 1 cross country)
• Nine time All-Regional Track & Field/Cross Country (4 indoor track, 3 outdoor track, 2 cross country)
• Twelve time All-District Track & Field/Cross Country (4 indoor track, 4 outdoor track, 4 cross country)
• Has helped Western Albemarle High School win 6 state championships (3 cross country, 3 indoor track)
• Personal Bests: 3200m: 11:12, 1600m: 5:15

Christina Mowatt-Larssen (Chantilly, Va./Westfield HS)
• School record holder: Indoor 3200m and 4x800m run
• Two-time cross country team MVP
• Personal Bests: 3200m: 11:22, 1600m: 5:19

Amanda Moore (Rustburg, Va./Rustburg HS)
• Four-time All-State Track & Field Team
• 18-time All-Region Track & Field Team
• 23 time All-District Track & Field Team
• School record holder: 500m, 600yd, long jump & 3200m run.
• Personal Bests: 500m: 1:19, 3200m: 12:07

Roxanne Franck (Poquoson, Va./Poquoson HS)
• Five time State Track & Field Championships Qualifier
• Five time All-Region Track & Field Team
• Five time All-District Track & Field Team
• School record holder in the 800m run (2:27)
• Commissioning United States Air Force

Marisa Facey (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch)
• 2005 AAA Virginia State Champion in the discus (136' 4")
• Came into the Nike Outdoor National Championships undefeated in the discus for the 2005 season
• Recorded a 7th place finish at the Nike Meet with a throw of 134' 7" capping off an outstanding season which she will look to continue in the 05-06 season for the Keydets

Corielle Parsons (Rockford, Mich./Rockford)
• Comes to VMI looking to add depth in the sprints and relays
• Looks to run on the 4x100m relay and sprint in the 55m, 100m, and 200m
• Has PR's of 12.5 (100m), and 26.2 (200m)
