FORK UNION, VA -- Entries are already trickling in for the 8th running of the Fork Union Invitational and already one marquee entry is set. Katie Doswell, Saint Catherine's top athlete is slated to go for her second blue jacket. Doswell was the champion in 2002, as a freshman. In the last two years she has been a close second to Tasmin Fanning of Western Albemarle, the 2003 race came down to the final strides. Doswell is heading into what could be a banner senior year. Her 2005 track campaign saw her reach the very top of the sport when she earned a pair of All- American certificates at the Nike Indoor Classic. Though somewhat winded at the end of outdoor, the summer should be more than enough time to recharge for a sub 18- minute effort at Hardy National.
This year the meet will honor last year's champion Kelly Watt by naming the top varsity division after the fearless competitor. Though the meet will sell shirts that read "run like a Kenyan" and "run like an Ethiopian" the real slogan on the 10th will be to run like Kelly.
The meet will again give awards to the top 50 finishers in the six high school divisions and the top ten will win Dri – Fit t-shirts. No other meet in Virginia offers more awards. Don't miss the excitement on the 10th win the first cannon fires.
