Ocean Lakes' Keally and Sekulic win region crowns

NEWPORT NEWS, VA -- Both race winners at the Eastern Regional Cross Country Meet were from Ocean Lakes. In the boys race, junior Matt Keally won the race, running alone for the most part as he ran the 4th fastest time all-time on the course with his clocking of 15:31.

In the girls race, Selina Sekulic had to squeeze out a win against Cox's Lauren Frisk with Sekulic coming in at 18:58 and Frisk right behind her at 18:59 as Sekulic passed Frisk in the final 5 meters.

The Kempsville boys placed 4 runners in the top 15 to win the region crown with 116 points. Senior Jeff Hedley led the way for the Kempsville boys taking 6th place in a time of 16:01. Beach District rivals Cox took runner up honors with 126 points.

With Frisk and Roberta Schultz's 2-3 finish for the Cox girls, they went onto to win a region title as well with 61 points. Sekulic's Ocean Lakes took second with 78 points.
