Steeve Gabart finishes 4th place for the Cobras
(Saturday, October 8th, 2005, Greenville, South Carolina) - Coming off
an impressive run at the Paul Short Run last week, the Cobras came four
points short of winning the Furman Invitational Saturday morning.
Leading Virginia Intermont College (VIC) was freshman Steeve Gabart
(Miami, Florida), covering the 8 Kilometer race in a time of 26:23.47
(4th place). Finishing 6th place overall was sophomore Ondrej Puskar
(Trnava, Slovakia) with a time of 26:27.13.
The third runner for the Cobras was Junior Jason Lewis (Triangle,
Virginia) in 26:57.52 (16th place. Freshman Alvin Charles (Orlando,
Florida) and junior Ricky Cuevas (Stockton, California) finished in
18th and 19th places respectively, with times of 27:01.37 and 27:05.44.
Also competing for VIC were Pat Marion (Jr., Ottawa, Ontario), Russell
Neff (Jr., Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan), Matthew Neff (So., Moose Jaw,
Saskatchewan), James Mousseau (Sr., Killdeer, North Dakota), Jeremy
Cadle (Fr., Charlottesville, Virginia), Nick Glimsdahl (Jr., Grand
Forks, North Dakota), Jamie Millage (So, Whitby, Ontario), Casey Kreger
(Fr., Richmond, Virginia), and Josh Smith (Sr., Delaware).
The overall winner in the men\'s race was Jacob Korir of Eastern
Kentucky, with a time of 24:48.93, about 1:15 over the 2nd place
finisher. There were 173 finishers in the race. The team champion was
Eastern Kentucky University with 56 points, while the Cobras scored 60
points.
In the women\'s race, junior Teresa Ayers (Carmel, Indiana) finished 5th
place overall, with a time of 19:21.12 for the five kilometer race.
Freshman Renata Volf (Croatia) finished in 20:32.25, good for 38th
place.
The overall winner was Alicia Valtin of Campbell University. She
covered the 5km course in 18:19.15. There were 192 total finishers in
the race.
The Cobras will be off next weekend, but will return to action on
Saturday, October 23rd, to compete in the Southeastern Classic, in
Mount Berry, Georgia.
