CNU Cross Country Sweeps USA South Championship

GREENSBORO, NC - Christopher Newport\'s men\'s and women\'s cross country teams each captured the 2005 USA South Conference Championship Saturday afternoon.


On the men\'s side, CNU placed first with 26 points, Greensboro was second with 52 points, Methodist was third with 79 points and Shenandoah was fourth with 86 points.


Individually, Husein Nasiro-Sigo of Methodist captured the top spot with a time of 26:02.


David Barham was the Captains top finisher with a time of 26:27 for second place, Daniel Swale finished third in 27:31, Cory Scott was sixth with a time of 27:53, David Woodson placed seventh in 27:58, Tim Scott was eighth with a time of 28:06, Jesse Hutcheson finished ninth in 28:19, Tom Camp was 11th in 28:52, John Hoehne finished 12th with a time of 29:10 and Daniel Berry was 13th in 29:57.


Barham, Swale, Scott and Woodson all earned All-Meet honors.


On the women\'s side, CNU swept the top six spots for 15 points, Shenandoah was second with 53 points, Greensboro finished third with 82 points and NC Wesleyan was fourth with 108 points.


CNU\'s first six finishers and All-Meet performers were Emily Low in first place with a time of 23:21, Liz Bissell finished second with a time of 23:38, Megan Fogarty placed third in 23:56, Ashley Ezell placed fourth with a time of 24:11, Elizabeth Browning finished with a time of 25:25 for a fifth place finish and Beth Bartlemes placed sixth in 26:08.


Other CNU finishers were Rachel Monroe in eighth in 26:08, Teresa Knoll was 13th in 28:06 and Megan Gehlsen finished with 15th in 30:04.


CNU returns to action Saturday, Nov. 12 in the NCAA South/Southeast Regionals in Conway, AR.
