Several Virginia high school athletes posted personal bests at regional championships during the week of May 25.
Tavion Jones-Hill (John Marshall, Richmond) threw 138-0 in the discus at the VHSL Region 2A Championships on May 27, improving from his previous best of 98-0 set in May 2026. The sophomore ranks #118 in Virginia and #15 among sophomores, finishing second of 30 competitors.
Jordyn Gooden (Yorktown, Arlington) ran 12.24 in the 100 meters at the 6A Region D Championship on May 28, lowering her previous mark of 12.69. The freshman set a school record with the time, which ranks #56 in the state and #6 among freshmen. Gooden placed fourth of 16 competitors and also improved her 200-meter time from 25.73 to 25.61 at the same meet.
Tia Tuffour (South Lakes, Reston) clocked 14.76 in the 100-meter hurdles at the 6A Region D Championship on May 28, bettering her previous best of 15.46 from May 2026. The sophomore ranks #23 in Virginia and #6 among sophomores, placing second of 11 competitors.
Tyler Noel (Hickory, Chesapeake) threw 50-4 in the shot put at the VHSL Class 5 Region A Championships on May 27, improving from his previous mark of 45-0 set in May 2026. The freshman leads all freshmen in Virginia and ranks #51 overall, finishing third of 37 competitors.
Dez Almany (Virginia High School, Bristol) ran 15.48 in the 110-meter hurdles at the VHSL Region 2D Championships on May 27, dropping from his previous time of 16.21 set in May 2026. The senior ranks #99 in the state and placed second of eight competitors.
Ayva Pierre (Brentsville District, Nokesville) cleared 5-2 in the high jump at the VHSL 3B Regional Championships on May 29, improving from her previous best of 5-0 set in May 2026. The senior ranks #40 in Virginia and won the event with nine competitors.
Grace Williams (Tallwood, Virginia Beach) ran 59.17 in the 400 meters at the VHSL Class 5 Region A Championships on May 27, lowering her previous time of 1:01.64. The freshman ranks #115 in the state and #11 among freshmen, placing fourth of 32 competitors.
