Devin Cornwall commits to Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech track and field program has announced the signing of Devin Cornwall to a National Letter of Intent for the 2006-07 year.

Cornwall, a native of Culpeper, Va., is a senior at Culpeper County High School and will compete in cross country and track and field at Tech. Earlier this year, he won the Northwest Region cross country championship for cross country as well as the Cedar Run District Championships.

Cornwall has a personal-best time of 4:22.72 in the 1,600 meters. He has posted a best of 9:33.69 in the 3,200m. Cornwall\'s 5k cross country best time is 15:31.

He has been a volunteer camp counselor for the Muscular Dystrophy Association Summer Camp in 2004 and 2005. Cornwall was also a part of the State of Virginia Goodwill Ambassador Family for the Muscular Dystrophy Association the last two years.

\"Devin will have an immediate impact for our program,\" Dave Cianelli, director of track and field said. \"I consider him to be one of the top talents in Virginia and this region. He fell in love with Virginia Tech after his visit and is a great fit for our program.\"

Cornwall is the son of Charles and Patricia Cornwall of Culpeper, Va., and chose Virginia Tech over Maryland, Georgetown, American and Iona.
