Boys XC Team Rankings
September 15th
Here are the updated team rankings following Knights Crossing, Pole Green Classic, and a few other opening week meets. Expect an update after Oatlands (9/26).
No. 1
Blacksburg High School
Analysis: Took second at Knights Crossing to Cardinal Gibbons (NC). This team looks very tough with their 1-2 punch of Rivers Matthews and Calvin Wilbon running 14:57 and 15:14 respectively. Blacksburg has four boys sub 16 already this season.
No. 2
James W. Robinson
Analysis: Return a solid group from last year. We have yet to see them in full action but will soon enough.
No. 3
Albemarle
No. 3 Albemarle (Charlottesville, VA)
Analysis: They love the hills and running the hills fast wins you championships. All eyes will be on Oatlands and Great American where they are expected to show us a lot more.
No. 4
Western Albemarle
Analysis: The cross-town rivals of Albemarle are similar insofar as they love the hills. WA loves to avoid the "fast" courses throughout the regular season so rating this team is more than just looking at PR's.
No. 5
Jamestown
No. 5 Jamestown (Williamsburg, VA)
Analysis: Building on their individual success, this team is looking to make their way up the state rankings in one of the toughest classifications in the state.
No. 6
Lake Braddock
Analysis: This team could be one team that moves up this list as the season goes on. This team has senior leadership who are hungrier than ever.
No. 7
Loudoun Valley
Analysis: Known for winning but also consistency too. This team is looking to make it back onto the podium at States.
No. 8
Midlothian High School
Analysis: Another team with a long list of accolades working their way back to the top. Class 5 is wide open and this team has a great mixture of veterans and young talent making them quite good.
No. 9
Rockbridge County
Analysis: This team is working to get the respect of the state and if they do what we think they can they will achieve that goal and then some.
No. 10
John Handley
Analysis: Ran great at Knights Crossing and have had some really strong teams in the past few years meaning they have the formula figured out and just need the right crew... could this year be their year?
