Searching for an identity, Huguenot High's Brian Lee Jr. barely made a ripple his first year of track and field.
Now he's more like a tidal wave.
Lee, whose diligence has pushed him to the head of the pack, is a leading men on a vibrant Falcons' squad primed for a second straight Central Region indoor crown.
The blade-like, 6-foot, 148-pound senior has been slicing up the competition the past couple of years – but it wasn't always that way.
As a freshman, he was one of those no-name kids who could skip practice – and the coach wouldn't even notice him missing.
"Brian, to be honest, was way below the radar," said Falcons' coach Robert Evans. "He's a kid who's worked and worked, and steadily become better.

"He's made himself into an outstanding athlete … goes to show, the jackrabbit doesn't always win the race."
