NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Christopher Newport sprinter Karen Simon was named the South/Southeast Region Female Athlete of the Year and Head Coach Louis Johnson was voted Women\'s South/Southeast Coach of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
\"I thank the God first,\" Johnson said. \"This award does not go to just me but to each and every person who is apart of the Christopher Newport University Track and Field/Cross Country Program and its supporters. They are each assistant coach, the athletes who are here and the athletes who are not but need to be, the sports medicine staff, the clerical staff, and the athletic director. They were all apart of making this happening, if I forgot someone it was not intentional it was just mistake of the mind and not the heart. On behalf of this coach, this staff and this team we thank you each and every one.\"
10 athletes will compete in this weekend\'s NCAA Track Indoor Championships on the campus of St. Olaf\'s in Northfield, MN.
