Kellman Finishes Second at NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships

Sets new personal best in the triple jump with a leap of 16.43 meters

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Senior Marc Kellman (Coram, N.Y./Longwood/West Virginia University) placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 16.43 meters (53 ft. 11 in.) at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships, held at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark. The mark is a new personal record for Kellman, topping his previous high of 16.21 meters (53 ft. 2 ¼ in.), set at last year\'s NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, when he placed fifth in the nation in the event.

The only competitor in the nation with a better jump than Kellman at the championships was Arkansas senior Jaanus Uudmae, who recorded a leap of 16.57 meters (54 ft. 4 ½ in.). Florida State\'s Rafeeq Curry finished third with a mark of 16.27 meters (53 ft. 4 ½ in.).

Kellman entered the championships ranked fifth in the nation in the event, with a mark of 16.07 meters at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational at the Armory Track and Field Center in New York City on Feb. 4.

George Mason finished tied for 25th in the men\'s team rankings with eight points as a result of Kellman\'s second place finish. Arkansas won the men\'s national championship with 53 team points, while Texas won the women\'s national title with 51 team points. Kellman and the rest of the George Mason men\'s track and field team will begin the outdoor track and field season when they compete at the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C. on March 24-25. The women\'s team begins its outdoor track and field season when they travel to Miami, Fla. to compete in the Hurricane Invitational on March 16-18.
