Harrison & Sinkler\'s triples lead teams to wins at I-95 Invite

DUMFRIES, VA -- The Potomac Senior boys won their home meet at the Brian Watkins I-95 Invitational as they were led by three first place finishes in the sprints from senior Chris Harrison, while the Brooke Point girls were easy winners behind three individual wins by April Sinkler in the jumps. Several outstanding performances were recorded by Northwest Region athletes in the opening 15-team outdoor invite.

Potomac (74 pts) finished 14 points ahead of the second place Brooke Point boys (60 pts). Their top sprinter Chris Harrison had quite an impressive meet as he won the 100 (11.04), 200 (22.64), and 400 (49.97) meter dashes. Despite Harrison having used up all his three running events, Potomac took first in the 4x100 meter relay without him in a 44.09 clocking and finished second in the 4x400 meter relay at a time of 3:28.47

Coming fresh off winning the freshmen mile at Nike Indoor Nationals, Mountain View freshmen Thomas Porter posted a quick early season time of 9:32.20 in the 3200 meter run to finish well ahead of second place Adam Henken of Brentsville (9:51.04).

Another solid time in the boys distance events was recorded by Colonial Forge\'s Blake Arnold in the 800 meter run as he crossed the line in first in a time of 1:57.06 with teammate Dan Leyh right with him in second at 1:57.07.

Brooke Point\'s Mike Garel helped the Blackhawks to a second place team by taking both hurdle events with clockings of 14.42 and 39.79 in the 110 and 300 meter hurdles respectively.

Brooke Point\'s Sinkler had equally as dominating of a meet as Potomac\'s Harrison did in having the top mark in the high jump (5\'6\"), long jump (16\'4\"), and triple jump (36\'6.50\"). Sinkler is coming off a great indoor season where she pulled double time between basketball and track. Sinkler was a Northwest Region indoor champion in all three events, while a state runner-up in the high jump.

The Osbourn Park girls are still riding high from their national runner-up performance in the 4x400 meter relay at last weekend\'s Nike Indoor Nationals and they wasted no time in getting a quick time under their belt this outdoor season as they posted a time of 4:02.48 to win the relay event by a considerable 15 second margin. Brittany Hyter, a key member of the relay squad, won the 300 meter hurdles in a time of 46.87.

Potomac\'s Yvonne Amegashie was a double winner in the sprints as her times of 12.81 and 26.50 gave her victories in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes. Woodbridge\'s Brittany Dixon finished second in both events with 12.98 and 27.04 clockings.

Brooke Point junior Brittany Copeland, AAA state indoor runner-up in the 1600 meter run, picked up right where she left off at George Mason earlier in the month with an outdoor personal best time of 5:08.02 as her previous best stood at 5:13. Colonial Forge\'s Kaylan Comer was clocked in that time at 5:13.63 for a solid second place run.

Comer\'s teammates Amy Yocum (2:24.62) and KC Wade (2:26.93) swept the top two places in the 800 meter run for Colonial Forge.

The 3200 meter run probably saw the deepest race of the meet with five runners under 12 minutes as North Stafford\'s Brittany Lussier (11:31.77) took a narrow win over Colonial Forge\'s Molly Hawkins (11:32.71).
