NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk State University men's track and field coach Kenneth Giles announced on Thursday the signing of Booker T. Washington High school All-American Marlon Woods (Norfolk, Va.) to a national letter of intent to compete for the Spartans beginning in 2006-07.
Woods earned All-American honors in two events at the Nike Indoor National Meet in March, winning the high jump and placing fourth in the long jump. He is currently ranked first in the state of Virginia in both events so far this outdoor season.
Woods also won the state Group AAA indoor high jump championship last month. He boasts personal-best marks of 6 feet, 9 inches in the high jump, 23-3 in the long jump and 48 feet in the triple jump.
"Marlon will make an immediate impact not only in our conference, but at the national level," Giles said.
"In (Phoebus High standout) Corey Vinston and Marlon, we signed two of the top three all-around track athletes in the state, if not the country."
