
The River Ridge District girls has had the top three ranked runners throughout the season in Group AA for much of the fall between defending state cross country champion Carolyn Bethel of Hidden Valley, Katie Fortner of Cave Spring, and Bonnie Angermeier. A big question is if any individual from the other regions in Group AA can break up this stellar trio of talent from one district at Great Meadow for the state championships? A possible answer is to look to Region II and who will come out as the winner at their regional championship meet on Thursday (moved from Oatlands Plantation to Tuscarora High School due to course conditions from Hurricane Sandy). James Wood's Amber Hawkins appears to be the favorite in Region II after winning the Northwestern District title decisvely and venturing well into the 18 minute range (18:19 PR at Third Battle Invite) this season for 5K.
