The 2012 Northern Region Cross Country Championships are scheduled for this Friday at Burke Lake with the boys race set to start at 3:15 p.m. and the girls race to follow at 4:00 p.m.
Boys Preview:
Chantilly is certainly the odds on favorite for both the individual boys title and the team title. The Chargers have the top ranked runner in the state, and one of the tops in the nation, in senior Sean McGorty.
McGorty is undefeated thus far this season and last Wednesday at Burke Lake won the Concorde District title by exactly one minute with a time of 14 minutes and 38 seconds.
That time moved McGorty up one slot on the all time Northern Region performer list into a tie for seventh place with Ahmed Bile of Annandale. McGorty finished second to Bile at the regional meet the last two years and is now looking to move up one slot there, to gain his first ever regional individual XC title.
