Bay Rivers District ruled Region I once in its final year of existence with the Lafayette boys and Grafton girls claiming the team titles. Kurtis Steck of Lafayette successfully defended his individual title (16:21) with two of his teammates in Simon Watrous (2nd, 16:39) and Jason Menzies (4th, 16:47) as his some of his closest competition. Two-sport fall athlete Carley Shannon (cross country & field hockey) of Bruton started her season off strong at Loriella Park back in August with a runner-up finish in the Chancellor Invitational and in her second race at Loriella, Shannon finished stronger in becoming a regional champ in a time of 19:44.
