Virginian Highlights @ Montgomery Invitational:

Leading wire to wire, West Springfield junior Caroline Alcorta won the invitational mile on Saturday at the Montgomery Invitational in Landover, Maryland with a time of 5:00.02 as the Foot Locker finalist won by a 9 second margin of victory. Alcorta also helped the West Springfield girls win the distance medley relay in a solid time of 12:38.79.

Michael Thomas-Brown of Mount Vernon was not as fast as last week in the 55 meter dash, but still very swift with a 6.50 clocking in the finals to edge out Pennsylvanian Niager Mathis (6.51) for the victory.

Oakton vaulter Lucas Wratschko picked up first place in this third major invitational of the season after winning last week at UNC as he matched his all-time best clearance of 14'6" at the Montgomery Invite.

Oakton had several strong runner-up individual performances include Allie Klimkiewicz in the girls 3200 meter run (10:58.18), Meghan Jean-Baptiste in the girls high jump (5'4"), and John Stoney in the boys 3200 meter run (9:33.38).

John Seals continues his exceptional winter of high jumping as the West Springfield vertical jumper went over the bar at 6 feet 6 inches to claim first in the boys' high jump competition.

The Midlothian boys clocked a time of 10:45 in the DMR to place a close second in the event, while teammate Tessa Riley dipped under 2:20 in the open 800 with a third place effort of 2:19.27 as the top Virginian finisher for the former Kansas runner.

The Osbourn Park girls posted some fast relay times including a 1:45.36 performance in the 4x200 meter relay, which ranks right with some of the fastest in the state this season, while their 4x800 meter relay ran just under 10 minutes in second place at 9:59.19.
