Starting us off in a big way prior to the weekend will be the Grand Daddy of them all, the 6A North Region. From this meet we will no doubt see some of the best sprinters (Lyles) and distance runners (McArthur, Murphy) battle it out and get ready for states. The big show will definitely be between Kate Murphy and Rachel McArthur in the 1600, 3200 and 800! So unless there is a dead-heat between the two, we are going to have a head-to-head winner between the two. Both of these ladies have run 4:46 and change and rank inside the top 10 all-time as sophomores! If they are fresh for that 1600 we are in for a show and likely a top 5 time all-time.
On the boys side of the distance races we will get to see some big time heavy weights with Johnny Pace, Alex McGuire, Alex Corbett and the McGorty brothers to name a few. There will not be a single distance running event that is easy to win at this meet.
In the shorter races things are not going to slow down either. We are going to have Brandon McGorty taking on Maguire, Mills, Teshome, and Fogg which will be a big show. We can basically call it a sprint now because it is going to take a low 1:50s to win that race. In the even shorter races we are going to see the Lyles bros at it again with Noah entered in the 100 & 200 and Josephus in the 200 & 400. Having both in the 200 will make it fun since they will both finally have tough competition to race against and might just throw it into gear for the first time this season. You're good at math and can figure out that that leaves them each with one event more to run... will it be the 4x4 or 4x1?
On the girls side of the sprint races the big name to watch is Alexys Taylor of Osbourn Park who is going to try and do what her teammate did a year ago and sweep the sprint titles at states. She enters the meet as the top seed in all three events but will have to bring her 'A' game to come away with a single title. Prelims are Thursday with Finals Friday.
T.C. Williams is the favorite on the boys side with Lake Braddock second and Lake Braddock is the favorite for the girls with Patriot second and Robinson third.
