Interview · Feb 15, 2006
Mike Morrison is truly one of the best athletes to come out of the state of Virginia in a while. He is not a sprinter. Not a distance runner. Not a jumper. Not even a vaulter. He is simply and well put as an athlete because he seems to excel in any event that he is placed in. While he is known primarily as a pole vaulter as the indoor state record holder in the event as well as having All-American honors, state titles, and a USATF Junior National title to his credit, he also can hold his own in the sprints, hurdles, and jumping events as shown by winning an USATF Junior Olympics age group title in the decathalon during the summer entering his junior year. He also showed that same versatality in last June\'s AAA State Outdoor Track Meet by scoring 40 points individually to lead his Great Bridge squad to co-state title with Landstown. In the state meet, Morrison won a state title and set a new state meet mark in the pole vault at 16\'9\", took three state runners-up in the long jump (22\'9\"), 110 meter hurdles (14.61), and 300 meter hurdles (38.08), anda third place finish in the triple jump (46\'4.50\") to round out one of the longest and greatest individual state meets by anyone in Virginia high school history. As Morrison enters into championship season with the Eastern Region Meet coming up this weekend at CNU and the AAA State Indoor Meet in Fairfax a few weeks from now in March, the University of Florida bound senior was able to take the time to answer interview questions from MileStat.com for an insightful article.
