  Annandale senior John Jenkins ran one of the fastest times in state history in the 110 meter hurdles this week at the Patriot District Championships. Jenkins joined a short list of past Virginians to have broken 14 seconds in Wednesday's prelims with a 13.96 performance, but then followed that great race with an even better one in the finals with a US #10 clocking of 13.86. His time is the fastest in Virginia since Rickey Harris of Centreville set the current state record of 13.50 in 2000. Jenkins also won the 300 meter hurdles title at the Patriot District Meet with a personal best time of 38.61 to help Annandale boys to the team title with 164 points. South County girls won big as expected with 184 points led by 1-2 finishes from teammates Felicia Majors and Loren Dyer in the 100, 200, and 400 meter dashes as well as taking the top two places in the long jump and triple jump.   Patriot District Complete Results Photo Gallery by Dave Watt

  Two periods of hail falling from the sky could not stop this year's Carolyn Legard Relays from being competed. A total of 23 schools and over 600 athletes competed at W.T. Woodson High School in Fairfax County this past Saturday. West Potomac senior Lisa Kinston (pictured above by Ted Plunkett) had a surprising indoor regional meet to take second place against some higher seeded throwers and had another surprise again to make her a legit threat to contend for the Northern Region outdoor title after defeating two of her region's best in Kerchina Johnson of W.T. Woodson and Renee Reives of Hayfield on Saturday with a mark of 37'7.50" in less than ideal throwing conditions.

Ahmed Bile of Annandale and Jeremy Greenwald of Grassfield (pictured above by Ryan Kelly) battled it out for the AAA state 1000 meter title two weeks ago with Bile winning in a thrilling race with both runners timed at 2:28. They will not be facing each other head to head at the indoor nationals, but in separate races will look to prove themselves as the best distance runners of the indoor season from Virginia with Bile in the fast section of the 800 and Greenwald in the fast section of the mile at the Armory.   A list of all Virginian boys (links to athlete profiles) entered currently in this upcoming weekend's New Balance Indoor Nationals at the New York Armory. Photo by Dave Watt   Two of the state's best 4x800 meter relays in the Lake Braddock and West Potomac girls faced off at day one of the Patriot District Championships on Wednesday. With Wednesday's events being held at the Episcopal School in Alexandria, Lake Braddock's 4x800 held the lead entering the final leg due in part to a strong second leg from their freshmen Katie Roche, which was all that Foot Locker finalist Sophie Chase needed to secure the win with her 2:19 split for Braddock to win in a season best time of 9:31.56. West Potomac junior Sarah Jane Underwood did all she could to try and close the distance on Chase with 2:17 split, but had too much of a gap to make up as West Potomac took second with a time of 9:33.68. Read more...   Patriot District Championships Day 1 Results  

  A list of the top 10 Northern Region boys performers in each event (links to full rankings included) through January 12th. Annandale boys are waiting for the return of their state cross country champion and Foot Locker All-American Ahmed Bile to racing action this winter, but the rest of the team has impressed in his break from competition including hurdler John Jenkins. Jenkins (pictured above by Ted Plunkett) has won unpressed so far this season against Northern Virginia, Maryland, and DC competition including a recent personal best 7.44 clocking at the Montgomery Invitational. Annandale thrower Joel Hoisington has the region's top mark in the shot put to give the team at least three potentially significant individual point scorers for the indoor state meet between Bile, Jenkins, and himself.
