Athlete Spotlight: Laura Rapp Ryan Call Oct 28, 2006

Heritage High School junior Laura Rapp is having the biggest breakthrough season of any female AA runner in the state this cross country season, and perhaps of any runner regardless of classification and gender. Rapp has shot up the MileStat.com rankings this fall from her preseason spot at #15 AA to her most recent position at #3. She was unranked at the season’s start for Cream of the Crop girls but has turned enough coach’s heads to move her to #8 in the latest polls. Rapp most recently finished with a solid performance in the shadows of Footlocker All-American Catherine White at the Running With the Wolves Invitational Open Race. She followed that race up on the same course on Wednesday at the Seminole District Championship as she broke the meet record formerly held by Shannon Saunders of Jefferson Forest at 18:51. Rapp’s 18:46 bested White’s best time of 18:47 previous to last Saturday\'’s record setting performance. MileStat.com\'s Ryan Call was able to run her down, something others have had trouble doing this season, for a brief chat.
