With his 15:23 PR victory at the Third Batlte Invitational, Loudoun Valley sophomore Andrew Hunter now moves up to have the 3rd fastest 5K time of the season in Virginia. The Third Battle Invite turned out to be a great meet for runners to make significant time drops from their previous meetas the varsity boys saw 11 runners dip under 16 minutes including 3 of the top 8 fastest in the state of Virginia with Hunter, Osbourn Park's Nick Causey (15:33), and The Potomac School's Hale Ross (15:35). Below are merged team scoring meet results from the October 19th invitationals which schools from Virginia participated in including the MileStat.com XC Invitational, Third Battle Invitational, and Runnin with the Wolves Rocktoberfest. The James Robinson boys proved themselves worthy of their #1 state ranking at the MileStat.com XC Invitational with a 13 second spread for their top 5 from 16:10 to 16:23 to allow the Rams to win by 26 points.
West Springfield senior Caroline Alcorta improved upon both her PR and state leading time in the 5K this fall with a swift 17:10 clocking at the Third Battle Invitational. She did it solo as the next closest finisher was her teammate Katie Kennedy in second place with a time of 18:43. The West Springfield girls were able to decisively defeat their 6A North competitors from Osbourn Park for the team title by a margin of 39 points and team average of 18:56 on the Third Battle of Winchester Park course.
Hale Ross of The Potomac School went for the win at the Octoberfest Invite and came up just short in the final quarter mile to take third with a new 5K PR of 15:59. Ross will get a great opportunity go further in the 15 minute range on Saturday at the Third Battle Invitational in Winchester when he races Loudoun Valley sophomore Andrew Hunter again (2nd at Octoberfest) as well as Osbourn Park senior Nick Causey on a PR and season best friendly course at the Third Battle of Winchester Battlefield Park.
