All-MileStat.com Cross Country Boys Team MileSplit Staff Dec 7, 2005

The selection was very tough as always for the All-MileStat.com Team. As this cross country season like any other, anything can happen. What you expect to happens never seem to does and what happens you never would have expected. One week someone is hot, the next week that person is out of the picture. A star runner goes down, a newcomer comes out of nowhere. There were many deserving athletes to be on this list. Looking at this year\'s group, there are probably a dozen or so runners who are probably in a group of their own and then 3 dozen or more runners who could beat each other on any given day. Some of the runners missing from this list definitely deserve recognition for their fine seasons. Let these All-MileStat.com selections serve as a way to recognize the great accomplishments of the state\'s top athletes this fall, while serving as motivation and providing drive for those left off or returning next fall to strive for greater excellence in the future.

Brentsville squads are kings and queens of Region II MileSplit Staff Nov 3, 2005

Quite possibly the deepest region in the state regardless of classification as many would say that Group AA\'s Region II can hold its own with the likes of the Central Region and Northern Region in Group AAA, the Brentsville boys and girls simply toyed with the field at the regional meet held at Great Meadows with convincing wins over quality competition. The Brentsville boys were led by regional champion Nick Gehlsen who clocked a PR of 15:49 and teammates Adam Henken (3rd, 15:58) and Henry Melius (4th, 16:06) who garnered top four finishes. Filling out an incredible top five were seniors Eric Ekholm (17th, 16:33) and Eric Truschel (33rd, 16:51). The Western Albemarle girls streak of Region II titles came to an end as expected with the favored Nike Team Nationals ranked Brentsville girls winning by a 53 point margin. The Lady Tigers (38 pts) were led by race winner Becky Stewart (18:25.75) who outkicked Western Albemarle senior Samantha Stafford down the final stretch to seize the regional crown in an exciting individual battle. The Brentsville girls fit their remaining top six in the top 20 and under 20 minutes with All-Region performers Amelia Emerson (5th, 19:02), Lauren Bussian (7th, 19:06.87), and Julia Mitchell (13th, 19:37) as well as Maggie Gentry (16th, 19:43) and Samantha Woodward (19th, 19:54).
