Region III walked away with the majority of the hardware at the Group AAA as the Blacksburg girls and Heritage boys represented the region well as team champions of the meet. Region III also had the most event winners with 13 among the 30 total events. A total of eight new state meet records were set as Northside junior Catherine White set two of them with wins in the 1600 (4:53.24) and 3200 (10:40.10) meter races.
Liberty University\'s Tolsma Track Center will be hosting the VHSL Group AA State Meet for the first time ever on Saturday as the meet moves from Virginia Tech\'s Rector Fieldhouse to the two year old facility found in Lynchburg, Virginia. The 200 meter track on Saturday will be showcasing many of the state\'s top athletes in what should be a very competitive 2006 edition of the AA State Meet. Region III\'s Blacksburg girls and Heritage boys appear to be the team favorites as both teams possess very talented individuals as well as strong relays. The meet will feature several of the state\'s bests including state leaders Catherine White of Northside (4:54.86 1600, 10:39.66 3200), Ashley Early of Western Albemarle (12\'7\" PV), and Matthias Meyers of Liberty (23\'5\" LJ).
